Big Hit for Victoria’s First Webcast Online Property Auction

When Alex Hill, Director of Webtron Online Auctions, told his mother he would do something to help her feel connected and be part of the auction of her Brunswick property while in Germany. He did not think he would make a business of it.
At midday on Saturday 1st December, hundreds of viewers across the nation and globally. This included a delighted mum, who logged in to see Steve Earl of Harrington Earl deliver a stellar performance to sell the property. Interestingly well above reserve. And this was Australia’s first online property auction.
“I had the pleasure to be a part of Victoria’s first online auction webcast,” Earl said as he opened the auction. Earl is also looking forward to the final roll out of the product early next year. This product will allow the incorporation of online bidding within the webcast. Earl is positive about webcasting auctions for remote vendors and buyers.
Sold online to the highest bidder
A Perth based investor was the successful highest bidder. This was thanks to KPI Investment’s Melissa Opie and her expert bidding skills.The buyer was unable to view the auction at the time it took place. But she was able to view the auction later that night online. This was done in the privacy of her own home.
Opie is also Chairperson for the North Western Division of the REIV 2006-2007. She is enthusiastic about the benefits of webcasting auctions for buyers using advocates. Opie sees the webcast increasing information available to the buyer. This is so they can make more informed decision (with their advocate) about the property and the auction. Her vision includes crowd mood and bidding.
