NBN Sky Muster Satellite new opportunity to auction businesses.

Published on March 23rd, 2016

The NBN Sky Muster Satellite provides new opportunities to auction businesses.

The Australian Federal Government’s is looking to invest in the National Broadband Network (NBN). This means that high speed internet will finally become a reality for the first time in many rural locations around Australia. In October 2015, the NBN Sky Muster Satellite successfully blasted into space.

NBN Sky Muster Satellite Launch Helps Auctioneers in Rural Australia

The new high speed internet NBN Sky Muster Satellite service will be available in late 2016.

In these remote Australian towns, notably those in the remote parts of Queensland and Western Australia, it is common for these households to run their Internet off older less advanced satellites. These can often be slow and cumbersome to use. This is particularly true if a number of people are trying to use the service at any one time. This online connection works to get rural households on to the Internet. However, its speeds are not necessarily the best to view or bid at an online webcast/simulcast auction.

NBN CEO Bill Morrow said in a statement that:

“Many homes and businesses in regional and rural Australia still rely on dial-up level speeds and have little or no access to a commercial broadband service. This satellite will help to close the divide and ensure no-one gets left behind.”

The new satellite will provide an opportunity for auction businesses to reach more than 200,000 rural and remote homes and businesses for the first time.

The Sky Muster service will cover mainland Australia and its external territories. These include as Norfolk Island, Christmas Island, Macquarie Island and the Cocos Islands.

Future likely NBN developments include Qantas utilising the Sky Muster Satellite to provide in-flight internet Wi-fi. This means that your auction might soon be able reach bidders in the sky as well.

On average currently, Australia’s Internet connection speeds rank 44th in the world. Even for our suburban internet users, these statistics suggest that our Internet connection speeds have the potential to be a lot faster.
